Installation / Sculpture

Wood, wire, water pump, car battery, spray nozzle, seedlings
This is an electronic sculpture produced during the Centre For Art tapes House of Voltage Residency. This work is based on the notion of producing and storing useful energy though passive activity. I was interested in the notion of being stuck in a fallout shelter with nothing to do, how would one pass the time? Looking beyond board games or exercise equipment, I wanted to explore a passive, or more peaceful activity; I was drawn to the idea of a swing. So, I constructed a garden/porch swing out of found wood and wired it to operate a pump that runs a recharged car battery. The swinging motion allows for a circuit to be completed, thus turning on a powerful pump that in turn performs the menial task of gently misting plants growing from seed.
