Artwork > Installation / Sculpture

This site-specific installation was built to be included in Toronto’s one night, all night public art event, Nuit Blanche. Five replicas of actual tornado shelters were built in the backyards of a group of Victorian houses slated for demolition. The slated demo was to allow for the construction of an exclusive condominium. During the event I sat inside one of the shelters and spoke to visitors through walkie-talkies, allowing them to ask me questions, tell me stories about the area, or tell me of their own storm or shelter experiences. Visitors were not allowed on site and viewed the work from behind construction hoarding.
